The Originators – New Generation Northern Soul
The Originators were brought together in 2013 by drummer/bandleader
Chris van der Meer. They play “Northern Soul” and are very proud to be the first real Northern Soul band from The Netherlands.
Northern Soul originated as an underground scene in the mid-sixties in Northern England and was a complete experience, a subculture. Mod clothing, scooters, acrobatic dance, amphetamines and DJ’s playing the most obscure raw sounding high energy soul at parties lasting till daybreak: the so called All-Niters. The DJ’s had an essential and leading role in feeling and determining which tracks were best suited to this way of life. The Originators are bringing this Northern Soul feeling to 2015 and can rightfully call themselves the New Generation of Northern Soul.
Touring initially began in the underground scene in Germany and France, as well as in clubs, at festivals and typical Northern Soul parties.
At first the setlists mostly consisted of Northern Soul classics.
From the experience and inspiration gained from this tour quickly arose the ambition to start writing/producing their own material within the Northern Soul idiom.
Early 2015 saw the release of the debut vinyl “Be my baby” by The Originators. Together with producer Phil Martin and singer Natazz they recorded 13 own-written songs fitting within the Northern Soul tradition.
The Originators play energetic, happy and catchy Northern Soul tracks in rapid succession in an almost traditional Soul setup.
